Homemade Gummies with Honey and Vitamin C
One of the simplest ways to incorporate vitamin C into your child’s diet is through vitamin gummies. Unfortunately, finding gummies that don’t contain glucose syrup, large amounts of sugar, or artificial flavorings can be quite a challenge. Even if you manage to find gummies sweetened with maltitol (not perfect, but better), kids often want to eat the whole package at once, and that can be quite expensive.
That’s why today I’m sharing a simple recipe for homemade vitamin C gummies that you can make together with your kids. Not only is this a healthy alternative, but it’s also a fun activity – kids will love popping the gummies out of the molds!
How much vitamin C is in one gummy?
Each gummy holds 40 mg of vitamin C if you use 1 tablespoon of vitamin C powder weighing 10 grams.
Tip:
Before adding vitamin C to the gummies, make sure the amount is suitable for your needs and adjusted to the recommended daily dose. Vitamin C is sensitive to high temperatures, so add it to the mixture once it has slightly cooled to preserve its properties.
Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons gelatin
- 180 ml orange or pineapple juice (pineapple juice is sweeter)
- 4 tablespoons xylitol
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon ascorbic acid (vitamin C)
- 4 drops organic orange essential oil
- pinch of turmeric for a pop of colour

Instructions:
1. Warming the Juice
Pour the juice into a small pot and gently heat it over low heat. Don’t let it boil – the juice should be warm but not hot, to preserve as many vitamins as possible.

2. Dissolving Gelatin and Xylitol
Gradually add the gelatin while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. If the mixture becomes too thick, you can briefly heat it more, but make sure it doesn’t boil. Add the xylitol and stir until fully dissolved.

3. Adding Vitamin C and Honey
Once the mixture has cooled slightly (warm but not hot), add the powdered vitamin C and honey. Mix thoroughly.

4. Adding Essential Oil
Finally, add the drops of organic orange essential oil and stir well.
5. Pouring into Molds
Pour the mixture into silicone molds. If you don’t have molds, you can spread the mixture onto a flat tray lined with parchment paper and cut it into cubes once it sets.

6. Cooling
Place the molds in the fridge for about 1–2 hours until the gummies are fully set.
7. Removing the Gummies
Once set, remove the gummies from the molds or cut the mixture into pieces. Store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.

Enjoy your homemade gummies – a healthy, delicious, and budget-friendly treat for the whole family!
