Diary Free Egg Nog (Non-Alcoholic)

Eggnog is a traditional holiday drink in the USA, often served with whipped cream and alcohol (such as brandy or rum). However, this version is alcohol-free, making it perfect for children and pregnant women. I fondly remember my mom preparing it for me during my childhood. When I was unwell, it became a comforting ritual.

This recipe is not only delicious but also rich in choline, an essential nutrient for children’s development and maternal health. If you’d like to learn more about the importance of choline in your diet, click here.

Ingredients (Serves 2):

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 ¼ cups almond milk or oat milk
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of cinnamon and freshly grated nutmeg

Instructions:

1. Whipping the Egg Yolks
In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks with honey until the mixture becomes fluffy and pale cream in color.

2. Heating the Milk
In a saucepan, heat the almond milk with cinnamon until it’s hot but not boiling.

3. Combining Ingredients
Gradually pour the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture, stirring constantly.

4. Warming the Eggnog
Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and heat gently over low heat, stirring continuously until the drink thickens slightly.

5. Serving
Pour into mugs, sprinkle with a touch of freshly grated nutmeg, and serve warm.

Tip:

My kids adore this drink, especially on Saturday mornings before breakfast. Since they’re not fans of spices, I sprinkle cocoa powder on the foam instead – they find it much tastier!
